November Journal: Set the Table

Welcome to our November Journal! With the holidays officially upon us, we decided to ring in the season and share some tips for setting your table in style. Nothing we enjoy more during the holidays than a dinner party; gathering around the kitchen or dining table with family and friends. Creating a warm, inviting home will set the holiday mood but be warned, your guests may refuse to leave!

Let's Get Set

When setting the table, we typically begin with a linen, crocheted, or embroidered tablecloth as the base and layer with plates, napkins, glassware, and cutlery. If your tablecloth has a lot of personality, we usually recommend pairing this with more subtle plates and serving ware. When in doubt, stick with a monochromatic color scheme and you can't go wrong. Cutlery is often overlooked but don't underestimate the power of unique or vintage silverware to create a one-of-a-kind look!

Next, we add height and depth with varying-sized glassware, candlesticks, vases, and other decorative objects. Candles will allow you to dim the lights and set the mood for an intimate and cozy meal. Glassware is a great way to visually lighten a tablescape and can add so much character to a table, especially if using vintage water goblets, pitchers, or wine glasses. Vases or other decorative objects can be used to add texture and variety to your setting. We're a fan of unique and unexpected tablescapes that catch the eye and feel a bit whimsical. It's the holidays after all!

Finally, our favorite way to deck the holiday table is by incorporating seasonal produce and greenery. Add produce directly to the tabletop, fill bowls, or even glasses at varying heights. Plating food amongst seasonal fruit and vegetables makes for a thoughtful final touch and will give your table a lavish appeal, sure to impress your guests this season.
