August Journal: Slow Living at Home

Welcome to our August Journal! This month, we want to bring the concept of “slow living” to the table, quite literally, how we incorporate slow living into our homes. Slow living is a lifestyle which encourages a slower approach to aspects of everyday life, making more conscious and thoughtful decisions, and taking the time to appreciate the little things. Bringing this concept into the home and into our projects allows us to focus on more impactful work and intentional ways of living.

“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful” - William Morris

We like to think that slow living at home is synonymous with simply being mindful and selective. Your home should embody your values and reflect what is important to you. When investing in your home or working with a designer, take the time to consciously source pieces that hold meaning and that you cannot live without, rather than making decisions in haste. We will always advise our clients to never furnish their home simply to fill the empty space. Exercising patience, trusting your gut, and investing in pieces you cherish will allow you to create a home that is meaningful and timeless.

Highly personal homes are not designed and built overnight. Sourcing the right pieces for your space can take time and persistence, but every item in your home should hold value and we don’t mean monetary value. We love to shop vintage and antique to find one-of-a-kind pieces that make a space truly unique. Taking a slow approach to designing one’s home can result in the most beautiful of spaces, functionally and aesthetically.
