Project Reveal: Coventry
Welcome to Coventry Road! This cottage craftsman home, local to Atlanta, was built in the 1930s. We took originality and inspiration from this classic architectural style and remained true to the period while modernizing the flow and layout of the home to be more functional for the client. This residence has a wealth of character and charm we simply refined and gave new life to. The overall aesthetic is warm, relaxed, and lived-in.
Kitchen
Originally positioned in the back corner of the home, we worked with the architect to reposition and centralize the kitchen. The solution created a galley kitchen, opening itself to sitting rooms on either side. In doing so, it truly became the center of attention and heart of the home.
When selecting finishes for the kitchen, we chose a beige cabinet and brass hardware to lighten and warm the room given the lack of natural light on the west-facing side of the home. In contrast to this, our countertop selection was honed soapstone. We only specify natural stone for our clients as it adds richness and timelessness that cannot be manmade.
Bath
With an addition to the home extending the primary suite, we had the opportunity to create an entirely new primary bathroom. In keeping with the cottage style, all walls are adorned with shiplap wainscoting and elegant floral wallpaper in the toilet room. To add warmth, we selected a dark wood stain for the vanity paired with a Carrara marble countertop, and brass accents throughout. The flooring is a classic octagon and dot mosaic tile.
In the kids’ bathroom, we selected lighter finishes and a glossy wall tile to create a bright and airy space. We incorporated both open and closed storage into the vanity, for hidden storage and access to frequently used items. In keeping with a playful aesthetic, we selected a penny tile flooring that pairs with a round mirror and round decorative wall sconce.
