July Journal: Q & A
Welcome to our July Journal! It’s been a year since we started our monthly posts, so this month, we’d decided to turn it over to the owner and designer behind Saddle Road Interiors, Christine, to share more about herself, her background, and her design philosophy with a quick Q&A.
Q & A
Q: Where does the name Saddle Road Interiors come from?
A: The first home I lived in growing up was on a street named Saddle Road, in a rural area of Maryland. My father, an architect, designed the home from the ground up. When naming my business, I wanted the name to feel like home and to have sentimental value to me.
Q: When, where, and why did you start Saddle Road?
A: I founded Saddle Road Interiors in the spring of 2020 when my husband and I were still living in Denver. I had just been laid off from my corporate interior design position, where I was working for one of the largest global architecture and design firms designing workplace and hospitality projects.
Saddle Road was initially a response to the pandemic and everyone trying to find their new sense of home, personal connection, and connection to their surroundings. Since then, it’s grown to become so much more but the root reason still stands.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Old-world European meets modern cottage with a focus on traditional details and soulful design. Yes, it’s a mouthful, but I appreciate mixing styles and eras to create truly timeless spaces that feel lived in, cozy, and like home.
Q: Who is your ideal client?
A: In short, a trusting client is the best client a designer could ask for. We love clients who are willing to be original, not copy and paste, have some fun, and help us help them create a space that’s truly unique to them, their lifestyle, and their personality.
Q: What is your background?
A: I studied interior architecture and design at Florida State University to receive my bachelor's degree and master’s degree in interior design. I’ve been working in the industry now for 7 years, starting on the commercial side and transitioning to residential 4 years ago, when I founded Saddle Road.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I find inspiration in traveling, architecture, fashion, art, nature, food, you name it! Digitally, my main sources of inspiration are Pinterest, Instagram, and magazines but nothing compares to time spent out of the office, exploring a new city and observing everyday life.
Q: Favorite quote?
A: There are several but this quote by William Morris has always stuck with me. It comes down to intentional living and design.
“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful”
