January Journal: Design Forecast
Welcome to our January Journal! This month, we would like to introduce our Design Forecast for 2025. As we ring in the new year, we’ve looked back on last year’s trends and have predicted what will continue to lead and define the interior design industry. One thing is always certain, we are in favor of timeless looks and are careful to find trends or movements that we feel will be relevant not only now, but for years to come. Let’s get into it!
First off in our forecast, we anticipate seeing more patterns, color, and overall liveliness in interiors. This design shift began in the last year or two and without a doubt, it will be prominent throughout this next year. The stark contrast of black and white homes is a trend of the past and soft muted colors paired with bold and punchy patterns are here to stay. Buttery yellows, earthy greens, rich reds, and blue hues are making their way back into our hearts, and into our homes. We’ll see this exemplified in wallpaper, paint, textiles, millwork, stone, tile…you name it!
Second, we expect to see a rise in traditional design elements and in tandem with that, a rise in formal living. Odes to original and custom details seen in millwork, stonework, upholstery, and window treatments will continue to grace our homes. We’ll see more skirted sofas and pillows with intricate piping and taping details. Custom drapery and window treatments have been making a comeback and even bed hangings such as curtains or pelmets. Adding traditional details to one’s home is always the right decision and when done well, creates a space that transcends age and trends.
Another design movement that is not new, but we continue to see on the rise, is the use of heirloom, antique, and vintage pieces. No longer are clients wanting whatever they can get their hands on fast, but rather they are wanting to find those one-of-a-kind pieces that will last a lifetime. From furniture to lighting and décor, investing in what you cherish will allow you to create a highly personalized home that is meaningful and timeless.
Finally, we are seeing a comeback in humanizing one’s home with the incorporation of artisan and handmade interior elements from tiles and serveware to painted furniture and murals. Clients are yearning for more personalization, character, and whimsy in their daily lives. We’ve always believed that a home should tell a story and represent the dwellers. Want to add a unique detail to your kitchen? Try incorporating hand-painted tiles into your backsplash or even hang artisan-made plates on your walls. Have a small powder bath or a kid’s room lacking personality? Try to find a local artist that specializes in murals. This year, we will see creativity flourish in interiors.
